General questions about physiotherapy for PN-patients

Post by lisa2014 »

Hello,

I would really like to know how often those of you who are having (specialised) physiotherapy see their therapist. Once or twice a week? Mor often? Or less often like once a month?

I wonder if it is enough to see the PT only once a month or so, because everything could be totally tensed up again until one has the next session.
Of course, this is also a question of money and/or insurance coverage. Plus the fact that many of the wellknown PTs see a lot of patients...so it is not so easy to get that many appointments.
But anyway, I would like to know how often do you see your PT? And since when? And do you experience any relief from pain and other improvements?

Thanks a lot. I am asking, because I would like to know if I am seeing my PT often enough and I want to know when I can expect any improvements whatsoever....

Hi Lisa
I know a little about your other surgical history but not sure if you had any PNE surgery? I had both physio pre op and post op. It was recommended by my pelvic floor physio to go once a week.
Pre op I went for 6 straight months and it did not help at all! I then knew surgery was my only option.

Take care,

My case is similar to Lara, I went once a week for a few monts pre op until it was getting worse and the ligaments were so tight they said PT was not going to work and sent me to the surgeon. Post op was twice a week for probably a year then once a week and tapered off at year two when insurance was going to stop. The post op was very helpful. I am now 3 years poat op and fell a few weeks ago throwing my pelvic alignment out and they said to come once a week for 8 weeks to get me straightened out. So I would say the once a week might be good and just got lucky myself with getting appointments for August as one PT just opened her schedule! Good luck.

2007-08 pelvic muscles spasms treated by EGS. 6/27/10 sat too long on hard chair- spasms, EGS not work Botox help, cortisone shots in coccyx help, still pain, PT found PNE & sent me to Dr Marvel nerve blocks & MRN, TG left surgery 5/9/11. I have chronic bunion pain surgery at age 21. TG gave me back enough sitting to keep my job & join in some social activities. I wish the best to everyone! 2019 luck with orthotics from pedorthist & great PT allowing me to get off oxycodone.

Thank you both for your answers.
Actually I see my PT once or twice a week. After a session I feel so much better, my pain is definately lower that before but I do not achieve a lasting effect. My PT says it will take a lot of time (there is no quick fix, as we all know :) ). Nevertheless these sessions give me hope that I will gain more of my life back and they give my a lot of hope my PN-problems are "only" muscle-related and that there is no "real" entrapment and therefore no need for PN-surgery.... Who knows? I'll give it a try for some time...after six month from now on I'll plan any further steps down the surgery lane...

Any other experiences, stories on how often and for how long should one give physiotherapy a try before really considering surgery?
