should you try surgery or a pain pump first?

Post by LindseyD »

Is Surgery something you, should consider before or after seeing If you feel better with a pain pump? Should u try and correct the problem by surgery first? Or seek help with a widely known pain specialist ? I've already done the easy stuff. Pt,Physio, doing restorative excercise some what now. I have yet to improved. I have IC,lyme disease/mycoplasma, PN,Vulvodenia , PN and pgad. I prob have scar tissue from my femoral hernia I had repaired which is when more PN pain got worse. But removing mesh is more risky.

Good question, My pain pump surgery was on the 4th of Aug,slowly ,I am noticing a difference for the better. Just asked myself the other day why I did not inquire about the pump before. Of course it is always easy to say , I should of. If I had to do it over again,of course I would have chosen the pump earlier. .You are the only one that come up with an answer that is best for you. :)
Surgery Jan.05 2011 TG with Dr Antalok. Dr.Chambi May of 2012 showed injury from a fall on back, 11 years ago. My piriformis muscle caused a large amount of fibrosis .My sciatic nerve was growing through the piriformis muscle which caused a bifid p.muscle. . Dr Chambi decompressed the sciatic, pudendal, pfcn ,and peroneal nerves. I hope to have a nuerostimulator put in to help with the sciatic pain that never goes away. Most days are better with the pudendal if I do not sit at all.

Glad you are beginning to see some improvement Ellie!
PN started 2004 from fall. Surgery with Filler Nov. 2006, Dr. Campbell April 2007. Pain decreased by 85% in 2008 (rectal and sitting pain resolved completely), pain returned in 12/13. Pain reduced significantly beginning around 11/23.

Also, I have read of several long time forum members trying restorative exercise, as Lindsey mentioned above. It would be great if people would share their personal experiences with this treatment. Did pain or function improve with restorative exercise? Did any of the exercise flare the pain? Does anyone recommend restorative exercise? We could definitely use some more information on here from the people that have tried it.

Sometimes restorative excercise has flared somE pain for me. I switched trainers and am taking it slower now. I'm just unsure if I should attempt seeing a pn dr.or see a pain dr. First.
