How I caused my chronic pain... a sex toy in my rectum.

Many physical activites such as sports, pelvic surgery, etc can all contribute to PN

How I caused my chronic pain... a sex toy in my rectum.

Post by Bluegrass28 »

Male, 28... My first post here telling my PN story. I've been in mostly chronic pain for 1.5 years, but mostly in just 1 spot.... very tip of my penis. So...

During a sexual encounter... I allowed my partner to use a larger sex toy (6-8 inch dido that didn't bend) in my rectum. Things were fine until I felt a sudden electric shock pain inside me. I almost instantly felt pain in the tip of my penis.... and that dull, throbbing, annoying pain is still lingering 1.5 years later.

I have seen a urologist, and a pain specialist, but I was just told to wait it out, and take lyrica, then I switched to gabapentin, now Im not taking anything because they didn't do much. I just kinda live with this chronic pain in my penis now and don't really know what else to do.

Just thought I'd share my story. Thanks in advance for any advice. I wish there was an easy way out. I try to just stay positive and enjoy life as the days go by.

To add to this... I feel as if this injury hurt my bladder in some way, and has caused non-bacterial chronic prostatitis. It kinda feels like I always have to urinate.

I assume you had a course of antibiotics and have been tested for STDs. Pudendal and dorsal nerve would give you side of the penis pain, not tip of the penis.
2002 PN pain started following a fall on a wet marble floor
2004 Headache in the pelvis clinic. Diagnosed with PNE by Drs. Jerome Weiss, Stephen Mann, and Rodney Anderson
2004-2007 PT, Botox, diagnosed with PNE by Dr. Sheldon Jordan
2010 MRN and 3T MRI showing PNE. Diagnosed with PNE by Dr. Aaron Filler. 2 failed PNE surgeries.
2011-2012 Horrific PN pain.
2013 Experimented with various Mind-body modalities
3/2014 Significantly better
11/2014 Cured. No pain whatsoever since

Yes, sorry that would be an important detail I left out. Sorry it was late and I was rambling on a bit. My urine came out perfectly clean, and no positive results for any STDs. Never had discharge, infection, flu/cold, etc. It was a very clean encounter. It's been a over a year now and like I said, it was such a specific moment of pain as if I hit just the right nerve with the end of the toy.

For tip of penis pain, would this be any specific nerve? Just chronic prostatitis? I'm so confused as to why just the tip would continue to hurt from such a deeper internal injury. Referred pain I guess.... or just a messed up prostate.

The toy only went in me. We stopped immediately when I felt the pain. My urologist said antibiotics wouldn't help so I trusted that.

You had no unprotected sexual relations then?

I was unprotected at the time, and was tested after accident. Everything came back neg. The pain does come and go. Sometimes I can feel a tingly sensation radiating down my legs. I also have felt a slight loss of control of retaining urine and I seem to feel the need to go more often when the pain is present. Then for whatever reason, for 3,4 weeks at a time the pain will vanish and I'll be normal. But it always comes back. No loss of erectile function. Or any other problems. Thanks again for responding, I'm trying my best to give valuable info and to just explain my situation.

Bluegrass,

That sounds difficult. Have you read any of the diagnostic articles on the site? I found those really helpful when trying to figure out if I had pn. Here are links to two that I found useful:

http://www.pudendalhope.info/sites/defa ... Hibner.pdf
http://www.pudendalhope.info/sites/defa ... iteria.pdf

I also read the chapter on pelvic pain in Dr. Dellon's book. http://www.dellon.com/ps/chapter12.pdf
I think that was where I learned about the three branches of pudendal nerve. If you do have pn, it sounds like it could be in the dorsal branch.

Well seems I have gotten myself into somewhat of a life long journey of pain management. I've just been living with it for a year and a half now. I guess the nerve is as good as its going to get after this amount of time, but then I hear stories of complete recovery after several years. What first steps should I be taking from here, somewhat assuming I have dorsal branch involvement?

Hi Bluegrass,
Then for whatever reason, for 3,4 weeks at a time the pain will vanish and I'll be normal.
If it were me I'd keep a detailed diary of my life (my physical activities, mood, dietary intake etc) to see what, if anything, might be making the difference, i.e. in relation to making the pain vanish for 3-4 weeks at a time. Also, especially as the pain isn't always with you, I wouldn't give up hope that the pain will at some point vanish for good of its own accord....

A friend of mine had severe coccyx (tailbone) pain as a result of doing some physiotherapy exercises that he was given in order to try and improve his fibromyalgia (wide spread muscle pain of unknown cause). He had steroid injections with pain killer in them into his coccyx under general anaesthetic but that didn't help at all and then, about a year after his pain had started, he was offered surgery to remove his coccyx (even though the surgeons didn't really know exactly what was causing the pain) but he decided to wait before going down that road....He just kept the pressure off his tailbone as much as possible (used 'coccyx' cushions and a special chair at work) and tried to get on with life as best he could - and, over a total of about 2 and half years, the pain very gradually lessened and then disappeared.

I realise that there may be nothing that you can do to ease your symptoms and it's very difficult to live with - and a coccyx problem isn't the same as having a pain in the penis - but I would say give it longer (even if in the meantime you decide to seek further expert medical opinion).
