I'm surprised the lead is placed with the patient awake. My DRG stimulator clinical trial surgery required continually verbal feedback from me regarding lead placement.
Even so, my surgeon couldn't find the spot where the temporary lead had helped my pain a bit.
But doing the implant at the same time vastly improves the chances of a good outcome. No doubt it vastly increases to cost too!
