Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy(PEMF)

Post by Mystoryhurts »

So my mother was watching Dr Oz and called me to watch. I missed some but the guest doctor was talking about this therapy(PEMF) and how it helps so many with back pain. Supposed to calm the nerves. It is a mat you lay on at night and you can change settings on it depending on the problem. They had a police officer on who had severe back pain that he cured with it. Anybody know anything about this or tried it? Doctor Oz said you can rent these cheaply to try before purchase. Wish I had seen all of it.

Link to small study of PEMF used on sacral area and pudendal neuralgia. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/51650381/Sa ... -Neuralgia

The doctor appearing on DR Oz was Dr William Pawluk and here is his website. http://www.drpawluk.com

Interesting, MSH. But I'm not sure I would want electromagnetic waves pulsing through my body unless it was under proper medical supervision. Can't they have dangerous side effects if exposed for too long? Isn't that why we're supposed to live far away from electromagnetic fields such as transmission wires? And keep our clock radios far away from our beds? And our cellphones out of our jeans pockets?
Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Pelvic pain life coach Lorraine Faendrich helped me overcome the mind/body connection to chronic pain: http://www.radiantlifedesign.com

I understand your fears, but please get up to speed on wave lengths of radiation. As a teaser... taking a 2 hour flight exposes you to a greater amount of dangerous radiation then this treatment. I agree with you on the cell phone issue though. :)
PN started in June 2009, quickly pain level went to 10. PN probably caused from long hours sitting in car, followed by weightlifting/sports daily. My pain level are now daily between 1 and 4. I do not know if I have true entrapment, but definitely know I have neuralgia of the PN.

NASA developed PEMF suits for astronauts since they were very weak when returning from space. They returned in good health with the suits. Pemf returns cells to their normal voltage of -70 mv. This certainly a good magnetic wave therapy and not microwave radiation. There are many clinical trials in the literature. Pain is generated when cells go to +30 mv and cancer cells are -30 mv. With pemf switching cells back to -70 mv , it is thought to help prevent cancer, and certainly reduces pain, which I have experienced.

They just installed one of these machines at a nearby hospital here. This is certainly very interesting. The principle is similar to trascraneal electroshock therapy, as we have discussed here previously, used also for depression, and for treatment of some stubborn pain syndromes. The stimulation of nerve conduction, in this case, instead of being direct to tissue, it is induced through electromagnetism. This article is a good find though, as instead of doing it at the brain level, they do it more local, at the nerve roots, in this case the sacral nerves, where the sciatic and pudendal nerves originate. How could I missed this post before. My neuro wanted to send me to the specialist of this machine, as he thought there was also some emotional aspect involved. He was suggesting the transcraneal approach, where they place the magnet coil near your head, but this is also interesting...Definitely going to try and get an appointment with that specialist today.

BTW, the one I talk is not a cheap cushion, but a magnet coil that is placed near the proposed site, either the brain, or as indicated here, near the sacrum. When its nearby the brain, sometimes is targeted with the help of MRI as far as I understand..

Fellas I'm scheduled to start this therapy next week. I'm not making any asumptions but I'm excited. This is a novel theraphy here, I admit it seems part experimental as well. The specialist, to whom I was refereed to by my neurologist, thinks he can help. He was trained in Spain. He has treated other chronic pain patients with success, of course each person is unique..
I will be their first chronic pain patient they will treat at the hospital with this machine they just recently installed. The idea is to actually start the stimulation at the head, then probably do some locally at the nerve roots too depending on progress. Keeping some hopes, I will report how it goes...
