If it's resected when it doesn't need to be -- I guess you could needlessly lose some sensation in that area. The sensation may or may not return. Another possibility might be the development of an neuroma.

Your surgeon should be answering all of these questions before you have surgery so that you are going into it well-informed, knowing what to expect. If they aren't answering your questions, I think that is a problem.
