I was so desperate to get my pain under control last week that I went from 900 mg to 2000 mg in 1 week.
Now I have an intractable headache and flu=like symptoms.
Has anyone else made this stupid mistake?

That increase sounds too fast to me. Did your doctor recommend this? Too much gabapentin too quickly can certainly cause headache and flu-like symptoms. Can you bring it back down a bit?

Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Maybe methadone would be a more effective opiate for you if you haven't tried it yet. People have posted that it was the most effective for neuropathic pain with less drowsiness. Anything's worth a shot at this point. Wishing you all the best.

Nerve block (unguided) 9/10 Dr. Jerome Weiss - sciatica for 5 months but got numb in painful perineal/scrotal area - he diagnosed entrapment - but no more cortisone for me

Bilateral inguinal hernias diagnosed by dynamic ultrasound - surgery on 6/20/13
Feeling a little better, a few more months will tell
Nerve block (unguided) 9/10 Dr. Jerome Weiss - sciatica for 5 months but got numb in painful perineal/scrotal area - he diagnosed entrapment - but no more cortisone for me

Always good to hear from you both.
No, I was doing it "my own way" (typical me). Trying to get some pain relief because the opiates weren't touching it. That's why I haven't even considered methadone.

I wonder if you might actually have a flu type illness. When I went downhill to my most disabled summer of 2009, it was due to taking a 3600 road trip (brilliant! 
), and during that trip I started popping neurontin like it was candy. I got spacey and high, but that was it. Of course everyone reacts to meds differently but having done a sudden neurontin binge myself, I am thinking headache maybe, flu like symptoms not so sure.

2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.
