I just can't take this anymore. It's been almost 4 months.
Yes those 2 weeks off gave me some good relief but now having been back at work, things are bad again. I work in IT for a large investment bank, it's a stressful environment to say the least and I have to be in my seat for at least 8 hours a day. I'm never going to get better if I'm working in this kind of environment and spending that long in a chair.
I'm originally from the London area but working in Belfast in Northern Ireland as a contractor. I'm due to be here for another 9 weeks, but I honestly can't live with this discomfort any longer.
All the physios and experts are in London and I've decided health is so much more important than money, so I'm going to hand in my notice tomorrow and get back to England and get treatment as soon as possible.
This condition is life destroying, it's even worse in the winter. I hope they let me go home within 2 weeks.
Tight Pelvic Floor, PNE?
Re: Tight Pelvic Floor, PNE?
God I hate this disease. I am feeling your sadness as I read your post. It is devastating in so many ways. You have the right mindset and are doing the right thing to get yourself better. I honestly don't know how you are sitting for such long periods. You are so brave for even just doing that right now.
My best wishes for you and please keep us updated. Do you have your appts lined up in London?

Dear Reckless,
Sorry to hear that you're getting worse. Have you tried working on an adjustable-height desk? They are available at specialty office suppliers. If that's not possible, stopping working is probably a good thing given the amount of pain and the stressful environment you're in. I gave up work three months ago and have no regrets. You can now focus on getting better and the help that you need, in a city that has the resources. Keep us posted, Reckless. We're all on this journey together.

Athlete until pain started in 2001. Diagnosed with PN in Nov. 2010. Probable cause: 3 difficult labors, 5 pelvic surgeries for endometriosis, and undiagnosed hip injuries. 60% better after 3 rounds of shockwave therapy in Cornwall, Ontario (Dec - Feb/12). 99% better after bilateral hip scopes for FAI and labral tears (April and July/12). Pelvic pain life coach Lorraine Faendrich helped me overcome the mind/body connection to chronic pain: http://www.radiantlifedesign.com
Re: Tight Pelvic Floor, PNE?
Many thanks for your words of encouragement. I've told other people about this but a lot of them say stick it out, they don't understand, luckily my family is supportive.
I never should have come back, I stupidly made the choice to agreeing an extension to my contract which ended 4 weeks ago. Health>>>>>Wealth.
Last week wasn't so bad, but this has been a stressful and busy week at work and this has led to a flare up.
Well tomorrow I'll speak to my boss and see what the situation is, if I can leave within two weeks then that's great, otherwise they could be idiots and make me work my full notice period of four weeks. As soon as I get my end date confirmed, I will book some physio in England. There is a pelvic floor physiotherapist who is listed on this site who works just two miles away from my home in England, I've been in contact with her and she has treated people with PNE.
I've also booked an appointment with Dr Andrew Baranowski who deals with uro genital pain and is also listed on this site. But that's not until another 4 weeks. He does nerve blocks but I want to go the physio route first.
The worst feeling is when I come home and have a hot shower and give myself a massage I feel a lot better. But as soon as my backside hits that chair the next morning I get a sharp burning feeling in my perineum and rectum, and it bloody kills my sex drive. Everything just feels so tight in my perineum region. That's why I'm hoping the physio can help me out and remove this tightness. I've actually managed to remove a lot myself by massage, before I used to get pain urinating and defacting but that has gone away now.
Thanks again.

Reckless, we will be cheering you on as you try to get through these next few weeks.
Are there any docs in the area who can prescribe a muscle relaxer or other pain meds that might make it more tolerable?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
Re: Tight Pelvic Floor, PNE?
That's it, I've resigned! I've spoken to my boss and he said he'll do his best to get me out of here as soon as possible. I feel like a great weight has been lifted off of my chest. To treat this you need to have a calm mind and I feel a lot calmer now.

I would agree that the stress of your job will exacerbate the problems reckless, so I'm sure a calmer life will help (there was a clue in your name, wasn't there
) Not that I do think your quitting your job was reckless, I would imagine doing that has saved a lot of pain and mental anguish too.
Let us know about any physio you get and the appointment with Dr B. Wishing you the best.

Re: Tight Pelvic Floor, PNE?
They're letting me go in two weeks. I can handle that, I will get some good rest this weekend, have some hot baths and do some massages myself and then take it easy in my last two weeks in Belfast.
I'm seeing Dr Baranowski first on 17th November and then the physiotherapist the next day. It's probably better in that order anyway, although these appointments are still 4 weeks away. I would prefer something sooner but I'd rather pick a consultant and physio who is close by to me so that follow up treatment is more convenient.

Reckless, I am so happy you got through the "resigning" stuff. It can be uncomfortable to talk to your boss about but you must look after yourself.
You are starting your journey towards wellness.
Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Re: Tight Pelvic Floor, PNE?
Hey Reckless, I have something similar to you I think......
I just made a new thread as I hadn't seen yours.
I have had problems for years and just had a defecating proctogram. My pelvic floor is really high, (or tight). Things have also got worse for me since I have been in a predominantly sitting job..... I have had bio feedback and physio etc.... no real success yet, but I do have a better understanding of things and this helps!
