Anyone here having muscle spasms?

Post by reckless »

I have spasming sphincter muscles, I have a constant tension in that area. My bowel movements do not feel normal because of the tightness and I sometimes get pain when having a bowel movement. When I sit down there is so much pressure.

The tight muscles are the cause of my pain. I managed to get rid of a lot of tension by massaging the muscles, but a lot still remains.

Could the pudendal nerve be what is causing these symptoms? Or is it just general pelvic floor dysfunction?

Does anyone else have muscle spasms?

Yes, I have similar muscle spasms that is causing the pain and constipation. I think it is due to damaged or entrapped nerve. I just dont know how to get rid of this.I also have profuse night sweating and this happens whenever I wake up in the night due to pain. I was just wondering if this is also due PN.

Maybe our symptoms are not pudendal nerve related or it could be the spasming is causing the pudendal nerve to be trapped. I'm pretty certain that once my sphincter muscles stop spasming, all of my symptoms will go away.

My next step is to see a colorectal surgeon, hopefully he will be able to help.
I suggest that you do the same Sam.

The more and more I think about this the more I think this purely to do with muscle spasms.
I think I've always been susceptible to muscle spasms. I remember I went on a holiday where I was drinking so much alcohol for seven days straight and I had similar pain in the sphincter, but not as severe. It went away after a few days. My neck also used to spasm after drinking. I might try some magnesium supplements.

Just a question:
Why do you think your muscles are spasming? Typically, muscles do not go into spasm for no reason. It's the bodies defense mechanism to protect itself from whatever the underlying cause of pain is.
Ultra Sound in 03/08 showed severely retroverted, detaching uterus with mulitple fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Pressure and pain in lower abdomen and groin area was unspeakable and devastating.
Total lap hysterectomy in 06/08, but damage was already done.
EMG testing in NH in 04/10 - bilateral PN and Ilioinguals
3T MRI at HSS, NY in 09/10
Bilateral TG surgery with Dr. Conway on 03/29/11. Bilat ilioinguinal & iliohypogastric neurectomy 03/12. TCD surgery 04/14.

Well the initial problem occurred when I was trying to touch my toes, but I was using this technique where you clench your sphincter muscles and then let them go. But I stupidly did this with weights. The pain disappeared after two weeks then one day I spent 13 hours at work sitting and since then I've never been the same. I believe I injured my sphincter muscles. I wish I never read that damn book.

I can feel the tightness, when I open my legs I can feel the tension go, like that area can breathe.

Well,to my surprise,i got my surgery report from the hospital this week and found out that i did not aonly
have an hemorrhoidectomy done but also a SPHINCTEROCTOMY!!!!!!!why? why they didn't tell me that? is that the root of my pain?
Omg how can drs be like that? my sphincters are always in spasm too!!! my left pelvic muscles are terrible ,very very tight and hard.
the reason she performed the sphincteroctomy ?anal stenosis, but i was in her office one day before the surgery and she didn';t mention to me that!
she said i had an anal-rectal fissure, but never stenosis, and at the end when she cut the coaugulated hemorroid ,she said there was no anal-recta fissure. She saw an anal fissure, but not anal stenosis the day before? what she has done to me?

I would have thought the sphincterotomy would have stopped your sphincter spasms.

Are you still tight?

Lara,
My heart breaks for you. I'm so, so very sorry for what happened to you. There's no way I can explain your surgeons thought process. Please ask her for an explanation.
It's possible she may have damaged your rectal branch.
Warm, gentle hugs,
Karyn

Reckless, pelvic floor muscle tension with overly tight pelvic floor muscles is one of the most common symptoms associated with PN. We've been discussing the chicken and the egg mystery since there were PNE forums. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Which came first, the pelvic floor tension or the nerve damage/irritation? I don't think any of us can answer that for you but typically if you've tried myofascial release for a period of time without success, if you are still in pain you may eventually decide to explore other alternatives.
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
