Hello,
I am a new member. My name is Peg & have suffered with chronic neuropathic pelvic pain for 16 years post-op hysterectomy. My first diagnosis was pudendal neuropathy. I even had decompression surgery at alcocks canal in 2004 at Johns Hopkins by Dr. James Campbell. He found no scar tissue, inflammation, injury.....nothing out of the ordinary. It was after meeting a French physician (DR. Possover) in Las Vegas at a convention, that I was informed that my problem was higher up in my pelvis. I've tried medications, surgeries x6, radiofrequency x2, cryosurgery, trigger point injections, neurostimulators x6, & finally ended up with a Medtronics pain pump. So, on September 4,2013 I flew out to Scottsdale, AZ for two treatments of adipose stem cells for peripheral neuropathy study done through California Stem Cell Institute. They have a list of physicians nationwide that are involved in the study. I selected Dr. Todd Malan of Innovative Cosmetics in Scottsdale, AZ. He is a board certified ob/gyn & cosmetic surgeon. On my pre-op day, Dr. Malan spent 2 hours going over my case, explaining the different types of stem cells & their functions in the body, how stem cells could benefit my body by these tiny "Pac Man" stem cells gobbling up scar tissue, & rebuilding blood vessels, nerves, tissue, & Muscle, how the fat cells are obtained a mini-liposuction of the lower abdomen, then the fat cells are spun down in a centrifuge separating out the stem cells & counted by a computer, next the delivery of the stem cells as established by the guidelines of the FDA, & finally the study itself with a 3year follow-up & the importance of journaling. Dr. Malan obtained 60 million stem cells from my lower abdomen. He gave me 15million by IV & injected 45 million into the damaged nerve area of my vaginal cuff. I am totally pleased with Dr. Malan & his kind Christian staff! The clinic is very clean & modern. They truly care & pray for their patients. Dr Malan told me that my adipose stem cells will continue to spread & work to repair my damaged vaginal cuff for the next 4 months. So far, I've seen a decrease in my pelvic pain by 3-4 points. I have tremendous energy. The cost for the two treatments cost $12,000. I called two other clinics outside the u.s. They wanted anywhere between $25-30 thousand for 1 treatment!! I am happy that my data will go to the FDA to help bring stem cell regenerative medicine to the U.S. Dr. Malan wants me to contact him night or day for any concerns/questions. He wants me to think positive cure with my 2 treatments. I will continue to update my progress over the next months. Take care & God Bless.........................Peg

Wow Peg, that's really great that you are involved in this exciting research. Thank you for sharing it with us. I'm so sorry to hear about all of your struggles. I hope that this treatment brings you a lot of pain relief. May I ask if any of this treatment is covered by insurance?
Good luck,
Jackie

Started with vulva itching 2/11. Diagnosed as vulvodynia and then PN in 01/12. Progressed to sitting pain and constant burning. Received 4 nerve blocks with only temporary relief, did year of pelvic PT before being diagnosed with bilateral FAI and hip labral tears 7/12. Did orthopedic PT 1.5 years. 3/13 Arthroscopic hip surgery at HSS with Dr. Kelly. Take cymbalta and lyrica daily. About 97% better than worst point thanks to combo of surgery and meds. Yay!

Peg, please keep us informed. This is very exciting and I pray this will do the trick for you.
I do have a question. Is this study not funded by a grant? Most research of this type if funded by a grant you don't have to pay for the treatment. You would have to pay for any travel and expenses that occur with the travel but the treatment itself would be covered.

wow that is awesome. I am very interested in hearing about your progress. Thank you for sharing
Re: adipose stem cells for peripheral neuropathy
Great to hear this treatment is working for you! I was wondering more specifically about costs associated with this treatment: specifically, were there associated costs besides the general fee for the procedure? (for example, hospital stay costs, anesthesiology, diagnostic fees, fees for medications associated with recovering from the surgery, etc?) I know this is very specific, but any information you can provide would be appreciated.
thanks so much, and congratulations again on this treatment helping you!

Re: adipose stem cells for peripheral neuropathy
Thanks so much, Peg, for your comprehensive report. I'll be following your progress with huge interest and hope.
Pudendal neuralgia, diagosed as ischial bursitis, from 1985. Worsened by fall in 2003. Bilateral TG surgery in Nantes 2004. Nerve flattened both sides. No improvement, still cannot sit.
