PNE friends:
This song sums up how I'm feeling today, and how you may be feeling too. I am in the process of asking my gospel choir director for a recording of it. The boldface was added by me.
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Nobody knows de trouble but my Jesus
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Glory Hallelujah!
Sometimes I’m up, sometimes I’m down
Oh, yes, Lord
Sometimes I’m almost to de groun’
Oh, yes, Lord
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Nobody knows de trouble but Jesus
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Glory Hallelujah!
Although you see me goin’ ‘long so
Oh, yes, Lord
I have my trials here below
Oh, yes, Lord
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Nobody knows de trouble but Jesus
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Glory Hallelujah!
If you get there before I do
Oh, yes, Lord
Tell all-a my friends I’m coming too
Oh, yes, Lord
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Nobody knows de trouble but Jesus
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen
Glory Hallelujah!
.
This is an explanation from George Washington University:
.
"Nobody Knows de Trouble I’ve Seen" is a timeless work that has touched people since the time Burleigh wrote it and continues to do so today. It addresses the themes and feelings of loneliness in this life, of oppression and the blindness of the oppressor.
Feelings of utter powerlessness could consume a person, "Nobody Knows. . . " provides support to make it through the days. It is a way of empowering yourself through faith. In this analysis we see the lyrics as a vital means of spiritual sustenance. According to the song, Jesus knows what we go through when it seems that nobody does. "Sometimes I’m up sometimes I’m down. Oh yes, Lord! Sometimes I’m almos’ to de groun’." This line states that life is constantly in flux and full of sorrow but the Lord is always there watching. One has to be reminded that the Lord is with them in this life and waiting for them in the next, "If you get there before I do, Oh yes, Lord! Tell all my friends I’m coming too."
This particular spiritual contains the same themes found in many spirituals. The lyrics describe intense feelings of sorrow in conjunction with a certain hope and faith that Jesus is with us, "Nobody knows but Jesus." Burleigh’s work emphasizes this connection to Jesus to alleviate some of the pain of this world. As a literary work the division can be made as to feelings of loneliness of this world and a heightened feeling of connection and support from Jesus.

Re: Nobody Knows
Thanks for sharing that A's Mommy; not having been raised in the faith I am ignorant of some of the old hymns and that one is very significant to our situation.
I listen to a lot of contemporary Christian music and have a CD that is just my "PN CD" with lots of songs that turn the bad days around. I have sent it to a couple of my chronic pain buddies and it has been very impactful to them as well. There is nothing BUT reminders of the Lord to get us through this in victory not defeat.

pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.

Re: Nobody Knows
HM,
Thanks for replying. I am a singer and this very deep song will certainly be on my next recital.
Because truly, nobody knows... nobody knows the trouble we have seen with this disease.... except Jesus... who was lashed and had nerves severed throughout his body and then had to carry a cross upon which he was crucified so that WE could be saved, set free, and HEALED. In His Name.
I must keep on believing.
Love,
AthenasMommy

Re: Nobody Knows
AMEN!
If you ever struggle with believing because of your pain, remember: The Word is the TRUTH. It is full of fulfilled prophesy, and counterintuitive instruction that works when applied.
One thing that helps us know it is the TRUTH, is that it does not sugar coat reality. The promises in the Bible include promises that in this life we will have trouble, suffering, persecution, etc.
It is easy to lose faith in a lie but in the Bible, you will not find a lie. Sometimes what you find can be a hard pill to swallow but at least it is true.
I am patient; if it is not His will that I be healed in this life i will just have to wait a little while to be healed in the next. I can trust that because the Lord has never lied to me.

Re: Nobody Knows
It is always his will that we be healed. When Jesus prayed at Lazurus' tomb he siad "father, I thank theethat thou hast heard me( john 11;41) He then COMMANDED lazurus to come forth and Lazurus did. The only kind of prayer in which Jesus included and "if" was a prayer of consecration and dedication. In the Garden of Gethsemane HE prayed " father IF thou be willing , remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will , but thine be done ( luke 22;42) Jesus wasn't praying to change something. He was parying a prayer of consecration and dedication. An din this kind of prayer we should put an IF b/c we always want to ready to do what Jesus wants us to.
BUT when it comes to beleiving God for something, we should not pray IF. It is his will that our needs be met. Mark 24 Whatsover things ye desire BELEIVE them and you shall recieve them
3 john 2 ....Beloved I wish above all things that thou prosper and be in HEALTH, even as thy souls prosper
