Helpful Pain Meds

Post by LindseyD »

Ive been complaining about a lot of twitchiness and muscle spasms among my many other symotoms. I thought it was just part of whatever is wrong in my pelvis. Turns out, they are common side.effects with my new medication dr.put me on. Hydroxazine and Gabapentin. The meds arent helping anyway,so I am going to slowly taper them. What do yall take for your pain? I realize every med has side effects. You cant get away.from that. But.my system cant tolerate these....I didnt have these.symptoms with Decepramine. I was only on that a few days but bc I didnt fee better he.switched me, so maybe once.I taper off these Ill try Decepramine.

Nerve pain we all know is one of the hardest to treat.
What do yall find most helpful with your symptoms? (and yes,I know everyone is different). I simply WILL NOT take SSRI or meds that are known to worsen PGAD.

I know its imparative to try something to at least help get pain somwhat under control....

Hi Lindsey,
I'm sorry your current meds aren't helpful and are causing intolerable side effects. It's very important to keep the lines of communication open with your provider, to let them know how you're reacting to the prescriptions.

As you've heard many times, meds are a trial and error process. You're correct about them affecting everyone differently. That being said, there really is no one particular med that anyone here could recommend for you. It's really something you need to work through with your PM doc.

Personally, I have a high sensitivity and severe intolerance for meds. I haven't taken them for years. I try to keep as busy as possible to distract myself from pain. I try to be very careful about not doing things that I know will increase the intensity of my symptoms. I've made and continue to make major life styles changes in an effort to keep my pain levels down and increase function.

I hope you're able to find something helpful to you!

Kind regards,
Karyn

Thanks,Karyn. I suppose a better question would be,what is commonly prescribed for this type of pain other than ssri? Bc Because Im still waiting for my appointment with Dr.Echenberg and evaluting other potential places I need to go and am trying to seek help locally in the mean time but the average obgyn *Might* knowns of PN but not the best way to treat it. My newest obgyn took me off of decepramine after one week.bc I wasnt feeling better, He didnt give it time to feel better... but at least with it I didnt have bad side effects. I guess Im asking for those who have been to drs who are very familiar with PN,what medocatiom is commonly offered. Hydrocodone dont do anything for nerve pain.

Hi Lindsey,
The most commonly prescribed drugs are: Lyrica, Gabapentin (Neurontin), SSRI's, anti-depressants, narcotics and opiates.

I hope this helps,

Best,
Karyn

What about Decepramine? May have spelled that wrong.

Desipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant. Is that the drug you are referring to? One of our former directors who had PGAD and PNE used it but I don't know which symptoms it helped.

Violet
PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Yes thats it. Going back on it today. Is tricyclic drugs actually used for nerve pain or just as a coping method. I l
know gabapentin is specific for nerves, but i cant tolerate it. :-( :-( :-( And hydrocodone has no effect.
