You worried that the first block would make you permanently worse, and it didn't. My two cents is wait until after the holidays, and just TRY the block in the second location. You're local, it doesn't mean a plane ticket, and you'll know you tried. Food for thought.scaredgal wrote: I flared pretty bad from the first injection to the ischial spine - haven't had one to Alcock's canal - so I guess he wants me to proceed with that. I've just heard so many bad things about this second injection and I can't handle a flare right now - anyway I don't really think they are very successful and worry it could make me permanently worse.
Scaredgal's MRI with Dr. Potter
Re: Scaredgal's MRI with Dr. Potter
PNE as a result of childbirth, 2002. Treatment by the Houston team, with neurosurgery by Dr. Ansell in 2004. My left side ST and SS ligaments were found to be grown together, encasing the pudendal nerve.
I am cured. I hope you will be, too.
There are no medical answers on the forum. Your only hope is to go to a doctor. I was very happy with the Houston team, which has treated the most PNE patients (well over 400), more than any other US provider.

Hi Celeste,
Yes, that's not totally out of consideration to get the second block - but I have heard reports that some have said that it made their sitting pain permanently worse after that second block. If it does, and surgery isn't even an option - where do I go from there?

Re: Scaredgal's MRI with Dr. Potter
Did those worse patients have it done in Houston, though? I think that's been more of a consistent issue for blocks done in New Hampshire, based on what I've read on the forums.scaredgal wrote:Hi Celeste,

Re: Scaredgal's MRI with Dr. Potter
Actually, one was worse in Houston - I wish I could find the post - they said they had a block and were pain free for 8 weeks following the block and then became much worse after the block wore off - I don't know how they are now - so I can't say they are "permanently" worse, but it still worries me. There are so many uncertainties with all of this and I just have to continue to work right now for insurance. Yes, it's a possibility that a block could make me better (very slim chance though it seems),but there's also the possibility that it could make me worse for a period of time where I couldn't even work - that's what scares me.
Re: Scaredgal's MRI with Dr. Potter
There's also a chance it could make you better for a little while, which Pr. Robert correlates with being able to be helped by surgery. This was my experience as well as many others'.scaredgal wrote:Actually, one was worse in Houston - I wish I could find the post - they said they had a block and were pain free for 8 weeks following the block and then became much worse after the block wore off - I don't know how they are now - so I can't say they are "permanently" worse, but it still worries me. Hi Celeste,
Which of your nerve blocks made you temporarily better, the one to the ischial spine or the one to Alcock's canal or both? Of course, I realize we have different things going on (you were entrapped at the SS/ST ligament, my entrapment seems to be more distal).

Re: Scaredgal's MRI with Dr. Potter
I got a few hours of relief from both blocks, maybe just a bit more from the first one...but comparable. It was hours, not days. I'd had several others done before I went to Houston and none of them worked for more than several hours, either, with a maximum of maybe 15 on the best one.scaredgal wrote:Hi Celeste,

Re: Scaredgal's MRI with Dr. Potter
Hi Scaredgal,
Hi, I've had pain in my lower dorsal nerver/perineum area for over 1 year now. I just got a MRI from Dr. Hollis Potter and she also saw varices following the dorsal nerve on both sides with the left side greater than the first side. She did not see any entrapment or scarring anywhere else such as pudendal nerve, alcocks canal, etc. I have pain sitting, pain walking long distances, pain after sex, occasional urinary urgency, sometimes hyperarousal and my main pain is in the upper perineum area/lower dorsal nerve area. I saw your Dr. Potter MRI results here and noticed she said you have varices along your dorsal nerve also. I was wondering if you have some or all of the same problems that I do, how long you had them, what you think caused it and what and when your next steps are to try to get better? Are you going to see any more doctors? I am a male, age 37 by the way and I have talked with Ali quite a bit on this forum and on the phone lately. Take care and praying for you to get better.
