Not to be an alarmist, but I was surprised to recently read about someone who had their pain return after taking Cipro, a commonly prescribed antibiotic.
I checked it out, and it turned out that apparently there are several drugs where the risks and benefits have to be considered before taking them if you have PN or PNE.
I also read that stating, specifically Atorvastatin, can lessen the chances of a nerve being able to heal from damage.
I'm hoping to have RF ablation soon, and am thinking of taking a break from it afterwards. However, ablation causes intententionall damage to nerve fibers that transmit pain, so hindering regrowth might be a good thing.
NEVER discontinue or refuse to take a medicine based solely on internet posts, like this one. Always talk to your doctor first.
Here’s a list of medications that can potentially exacerbate pain in patients with pudendal neuralgia due to their neuropathic side effects:
### Medications Potentially Exacerbating Pudendal Neuralgia Pain:
1. ** Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics:**
- ** Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)**
- ** Levofloxacin (Levaquin)**
- ** Moxifloxacin (Avelox)**
2. ** Chemotherapy Agents:**
- ** Cisplatin**
- ** Oxaliplatin**
- ** Paclitaxel**
- ** Vincristine**
3. ** Antiretroviral Drugs:**
- ** Didanosine (ddI)**
- ** Stavudine (d4T)**
4. ** Anti-seizure Medications:**
- ** Phenytoin (Dilantin)**
5. ** Antibiotics:**
- ** Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid)**
- **Metronidazole (Flagyl)**
-** Ciprofloxacin (Cipro)**
6. ** Cardiovascular Medications:**
- ** Amiodarone**
** If you have pudendal neuralgia, it’s important to discuss these potential risks with your healthcare provider to consider alternative treatments that may be safer for your condition.
Cipro and Other Medications That Could Worsen Pudendal Neuralgia
Cipro and Other Medications That Could Worsen Pudendal Neuralgia
Left testicle pain since 2008. Left sciatica 2010-2012. Failed left epididectomy, orchiectomy, botox injections, nerve blocks and internal physical therapy. Genital branch of genitofemoral and perineal branch of pudendal nerve cut. L5-S1 microdiscectomy cured sciatica. Dorsal Root Ganglion nerve stimulator failed to help and was removed. I have had 4 pudendal nerve blocks, two from Dr. Poree worked for 2 hrs. The ONLY break from pain ever.

Good luck with the RF ablation, Jon. Hope it goes well for you.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Thanks for sharing this information. It’s a useful reminder that medication side effects can be different for people dealing with nerve-related pain. I especially agree that medications should not be stopped or changed based only on information from an online forum. It’s best to discuss any concerns with a healthcare professional who understands the individual’s medical history. Hope your RF ablation goes well and that you get some lasting relief.

Hi jon,
I am curious where you're getting the information, as I couldn't find information that suggested Ciprofloxacin would worsen pudendal neuralgia but I've only had a brief look.
In terms of pulsed radiofrequency treatment for pudendal neuralgia whilst there are theories, they don't actually know how it works. I hope it provides relief, as it works well for some but not for others.
Good luck
