Hi Missing

Many of us initially only had symptoms on one side, which then progresses to both sides. This includes myself. How does this happen? - well it can certainly happen without anyone intervening, that's for sure. For many of us, this condition is progressive. You already know you have pain on both sides, nothing has actually changed.

You do have an appointment with Dr Hibner coming up, don't you? I think it would be good for you - and it would make managing your pain much easier for you, as well - if you could focus forward, rather than back.

At the moment you are very much caught up in the cycle of acceptance, you seem to be stuck somewhere between denial and anger. We've all been there, of course. It is important that you try to keep moving forward and not allow yourself to remain stuck. The longer you are stuck in the cycle, the less likely you will be able to manage your condition wisely.

Have you read the forum information about this? It is very much worth reading - you will find the page I am talking about here. This is important!

Yes I will admit I am in denial still and very angry. And no I don't know how to get out It it. I posted my MRI under the MRI posts and My old one is under Dr Potter I think. I keep reading it and I am still in denial I don't want this Just. Like you all don't either. I'm scared to death not knowing. I'm leaving in pain 24/7 so isn't my family its getting worse ever since last weekend when I had a bm since then everything has gotten worse. I feel like a prisionner in my own body and can't get free like u all do. Everyone's pain threshold is different though I feel like I'm a wimp and you are all stronger than me. Anyways look at my MRI and then the old one. I became bilateral in five months. And why dosrnt hibner only do one side at a time ??

Dr. Hibner explained to me that he only does one side at a time for a couple reasons. First, it is a very intense and sometimes long surgery. So after one side, he is pretty tired and would anyone want a "tired" doctor to operate on them? Secondly, doing one side at a time allows one to favor the surgical side while it is healing - doing both sides is tough on recovery. I too would love to have both sides done at once from a cure and a financial perspective - but I sure don't want a "tired" doctor operating on me!

Hang in there - I just have a good feeling about you going to see Loretta and Hibner!

Hang in there Missing.

Yes, we do all know what it is like. It doesn't make it any less, what you are going through, but sometimes it does help to know that other people understand and that you are not alone.

Pain worse after BM - yes, that's a big trigger.... I am having a flare at the moment too, today is not a good day. We don't all feel free of this, not by a long way, and we are not all stronger than you. The difference is that many of us are further along the road, that's all.

At first I was very resistant indeed to the very idea of acceptance - it felt like accepting this was giving up. Giving up all hope of recovery, giving up all hope of improvement - just surrendering to it. But that is not what it is about. It took me ages to see this.

In the end, what did it for me was reading a book. My psychologist recommended it, I was seeing her for help with pain management - I can recommend that too, by the way, CBT is very useful indeed with PN! Anyway - this is the book - Coping Successfully with Pain. I am sure you can get it from Amazon.com or maybe your local library, that is where I first got it from.

There is a whole stack of stuff in there, I think I found every single chapter useful. At the beginning I was reading it and saying Yes! Yes! That's how it is! .....Anyway it helped me a lot, and other people on here have found it helpful as well. So you might want to give it a look.
