I never did well with yoga, too much stretching... I did enjoy the arthritis foundations warm pool exercise class.. it was just important to not overdo it. But it was in a supportive environment so there was no pressure to exercise beyond my tolerance. When my symptoms first started, before my pelvic floor got real bad, I found biofeedback helpful, but it was not consistently available. Once my pelvis contracted manual physical therapy just made the pain too intense... a neurologist recommended not to have it anymore and suggested botox if needed. You would think I could get this fairly easy but doctors who are unfamiliar with the condition were not willing to try something new.
Doctors will suggest completely worthless treatments over and over, just to say they did something. The treatment of this condition is still incredibly poor especially if you don't have money. I'm so tired of the pain not being treated I am now seeking a neuromodulator... will be interesting to see if it ever happens and how many doctors will I go through? And how long will it take?
I think psychotherapy is helpful for women in severe emotional distress.. especially if they are depressed or heaven's forbid, suicidal. Some women will find it useful as their lives are completely disrupted. The support can help.. usually one can tell if it helps to talk about it and gain validation.. That's the important part.. the therapist must be able to validate the experience rather than add to the gaslighting. It can help to roll play interactions with physicians if one finds that they quickly deflate when advocating for oneself. Or if interactions with the system leads to shame, embarrassment. and other negative self assessments.
