Quilter 2, I have seen several pain specialist and one of them did believe that individuals with neuropathic pain should not take narcotics, that they should be managed only with tricyclic antidepressants, SSRIs, SNRIs and/or antiseizure meds. On the other I had one pain specialists give me the "what for" because they didn't think I was using my narcotics enough. Go figure! It sounds like this new pain specialist is not the best match for your needs, go find another one!

Regarding disability, they look at more than just the medications you take. That is only one small piece. I take very few medications because I don't tolerate the side effects ie most of them give me cardiac problems and had no problems getting disability.

Karyn;
Thanks for reading. I'm sure it made NO sense, because I was there and it didn't make sense to me. That Celeste is a HOOT. I love her 'cause she sounds so sure of herself. Probably because she's been through it all and finally got better. At any rate, I'm sticking with Dr. Q and the phsicans assistant and hope for the best. I just hope Dr. Q doesn't get rid of me, because Dr. Roberts, yesterdays doc, asked for the records. I should never have signed those papers. I should have said thank-you for your time and left.

NYT;
Thank-you for the input. I agree totally. At present I take 400 mgs. per day of Ultram and 4-5 times per week, 1 Valium compound. On a rare occasion when nothing else is working, I do take 1 1/2 Hydrocodone. I don't think that's a lot compared to what I've read on this forum. Maybe I'm wrong.
My best;
Doreen

Hi Doreen,
I honestly don't think Dr. Q would get upset or offended about having your records FAX'd somewhere else. He strikes me as the type of doctor that would want the best for you, even if it means finding someone closer to you. I really dont' think he'd drop you as a patient. And you're NOT an idiot! You're fabulous! :D
There was no way for you to know in advance, as a new patient, how the appointment would go. I totally get the feeling of being off balance, shocked, numb, confused, nervous AND IN PAIN at some of these appointments and the feeling of just wanting to get the heck outta there! Consider it a lesson learned!
Love,
Karyn
