Quick update,
It's been a week now since my piriformis surgery with doctor Bollens.
Recovery has been less than smooth so far with serious flare ups in nerve pain and so far my activities are very limited . Laying in bed most of the day with short walks in the house and short sitting sessions for meals and to keep the muscles from cramping up too much, two to three weeks after surgery I can start gentle stretches and PT to mobilise and strengthen the muscles again.
Pseudosciatic and pudendal nerve flare ups can be quite bad at the moment after just walking or standing too long, sitting is also very limited to here and there 15 minutes.
Usually wake up with no to minimal pain but this progresses throughout the day,
But supposedly things are within the normal expectations and doctor Bollens said this will take time, typically four weeks before significant relief because of inflammation, swelling and 'nerve awakening'.
Will keep you updated in the coming weeks!

Wish you the best Barre! Where are you experiencing most the pain before and after surgery?
Re: Surgery update, piriformis release
Groin and pseudo sciatic pain, occasional burning perineum and dull pain and feeling of sitting on something hard near the sitbone, occasional anal discomfort. Intermittent and overall mild symptoms with some flare ups after two years but still decided to go ahead with this surgery, the surgeon said it was very low risk as he didn't have to directly manipulate any nerves.
Ironically enough my symptoms are now overall worse than pre surgery but I am told this is temporary and well within expectations, trying to stay positive and tell myself this was this right choice in the long term .... surgeon told me there was clear sign of a mechanical issue, the Piriformis being too tight and this can put compression on the nerves, especially the sciatic nerve, and sometimes the pudendal nerve but it's too early to know if it helped.
