Is bowel prep usually required before surgery ? Drinking prep and being on the toilet in a hotel room for 12 hours ? I’m afraid to ask this question

It wasn't for mine. I don't remember ever hearing anyone else say it was required before their surgery.

Is your surgeon requiring you to do a bowel prep? It would make sense given that the surgery is in close proximity to the bowels. I'm sure each doctor has their own protocol

You have a date for surgery?

I wouldn't have thought you would have to do so. Plus, patients don't usually find bowel prep an issue.

No date yet for surgery I have to travel 2,000 miles just for a surgical consultation then another trip for surgery. I’m not sure how I’ll manage the travel with this unbearable condition UGHhhhh. Can’t sit Can’t stand

That is a lot of traveling! I thought it was rough just making 1 trip half-way around the world and back! Some of the surgeons will arrange for same-trip surgeries for patients from out-of-town. Maybe that is something your surgeon would consider if you ask.

It's a nightmare of a condition, even getting surgery is mission impossible. It sounds as though you're making progress though. I take it splitting the trips won't really help either due to cost/distance? Make sure you ask for opioids for the flight!

I have a vague memory of going of doing a minor bowel prep the night before the surgery. But it was no big deal at all. I might have just had to take a laxative.
