No CT guidance and nerve block

My local urogyne wants to do a nerve block on me. He said it is not necessary to go out of state for CT guidance. Is CT guidance necessary, he assures me he has been doing blocks for forever and he does not need to use the guidance. Thoughts? I am limited with my insurance until April and this provider is covered under my current insurance plan. Thank you

How can they be sure to hit the right place if not guided? And then if it doesn't work is it because they haven't hit the right spot or that the nerve is not the problem . Back to square one. Everyone is slightly different and the nerve pathway isn't always the same from one individual to the next. It doesn't seem feasible to me. To get a good result I believe that the best place to target is as near to the nerve in the surrounding tissue as possible but not actually in the nerve it's self. Hitting so fine an area would preferably need to be guided IMHO. Good luck whatever you decide upon.

I agree with Helen. I had 3 unguided nerve blocks by Dr. Marvel in his office 2left because he did not hit it the first time and one right. He did say up front that he may not hit the right place. Honestly even the second time it wasn't exactly correct on the left side. I only got sone relief for the few hours following the blocks. Then I went for the CT scheduled nerve block and that hit the spot for 100% relief. Maybe your guy has a magic sense to hit it correctly but I certainly got better results with the CT. Like you said you are covered for him now so you could do this now and follow up later with CT if the results are not clear. Some people had flare ups after the blocks so that may be something to consider and read about in this area of the forum. Good luck.
