I had surgery from Dr. Bautrant and I am much better. I don't take medication now and I am back to work. It seems like women have better results with him than men but actually, I don't know very many men who went to him.

I had surgery from Dr. Bautrant and he is a wonderful caring Doctor. He helped cure my pain with intercourse by adding on a free vestibulectomy, because he was so passionate that I needed it. So, my pain with intercourse is now gone. But my sitting pain is still a little bit worse 2 years out. He is sure he released my nerve, as he heard an audible ting sound as he cut through scarred ligaments, and his process has a high success rate. He uses multiple testing methods during surgery to ensure a good result... but for cases like mine where there is no improvement, he adamently states that no cure will happen without physical therapy, possibly botox and possibly emdr therapy.
I was starting to wonder if perhaps I was just scarred after his surgery. I had the 3tesla mri with dr. hollis potter in ny two days ago, and she said my nerve looked fine along the sacrospinous, sacrotuberous and alcock's canal regions.... so perhaps dr. bautrant did what I needed and I just need muscle release at this point. I am a bit confused and unsure, but I do have confidence in him as a doctor and a person. Although you may want to ask him if his success rates are different for surgeries with males vs females. I agree with Violet... that perhaps females do better than males in his surgery, but this is only from people I've seen on the forums, so perhaps you should ask him. You have to be a bit persistent to get through to his office, but they are all extremely nice and fun there.

Hi Mikette,
I also had PNE surgery with Dr. Bautrant. I traveled from Australia as there was no other doctor here doing this type of research and treatment.
I suffered intolerable pain and had a very difficult and painful journey to and from France. (24 hours traveling time)
For 3 years prior to having surgery I had no change whatsoever in my pain levels and I was extremely constipated and had constant bladder dribbling. Pain was forever around 9/10 so I had did not hesitate to try Dr. Bautrant's technique. His TIR approach was more appealing to me than having to be cut open on the butt and through the gluteous muscle.
here is my progress following surgery;
First few months - Pain was high, still around 9/10 but bowel function was fantastic. I have never been constipated since.
3 months post op - Vulva burning was dramatically decreased -- other pain was still high, as well as piriformis pain. Lots of massage needed.
6 months - Returned to work (standing only) for 3 mornings per week. (5 hour shifts) Still very high pain levels. Cried a lot, slept a lot but tried to be positive that things would change soon. Stopped taking Opiod and anti - depressant drugs. Felt better.
1 year - Stopped internal physio. it was making my pain levels much worse after every session. Kept busy with work and light housework. Still couldn't do much physically. Dedicated my time to raising awareness of PN through local gynaecological support group.
2 years - Pain levels and fitness improved. Pain was down to around 5/10 and began to stabilize. Did hydrotherapy twice per week and very slow swimming, no more than 8 laps. Tried to keep my mind on other things despite being in pain. Very difficult time with family relationships.
Kept up 3 monthly appointments with Pain specialist. Reduced medication drastically.
3 years - Although still in pain the level is around 3/10. very stable. No more up and down rollercoaster in pain levels. Still difficult to sit but tolerable. I usually avoid sitting when I can. I never did return to work full time. I take my time doing housework etc. Can bend much more freely, can do more around the house but still limited. I don't regret having surgery, and I feel that if I'd had this sooner I would most likely feel much better by now. 3 years post op I still feel I'm recovering. Still hope that one day I'll be more comfortable. if I don't get any better, I am ready to accept the remaining pain will always be with me. I would say that I'm 70% better. I had no life before, now I ahve my life back.
