There was a study called "When you dislike patients, pain is taken less seriously." This study examined the influence of patients' likability on pain estimations made by observers. If you're less likable, you're less likely to get the pain management care you need.

That's it then my doctor hates me. . . . and I always though my likeability factor was just about off the scale
She definitely will not like me now anyway as I have put in an official complaint
I am honestly feeling a bit guilty about it but I have given her so many opportunities to just do her doctor job. I don't want her to like or love me. She can't seem to manage to do it however (the doctoring job not the loving).
It does tend to make life so difficult when they are not on side. I do hope that she likes the rest of her patients and that it's just me that is having this time with her. . . the whole of my village would be in a dreadful state. . .I must remember NOT to have an unusual problem in future . . . . and to smile more
Personality should NOT be any part in the diagnosis. A doctor who is helpful is worth their weight in gold. A doctor who is not helpful and/or actively unhelpful can add weightily to the diagnostic and treatment problem for the patient often compounding the problem to include worsening psychological features on top of all the rest. When did medicine stop being a science? Maybe my surgery will hold X factor style auditions soon!

You have my vote, Helen.
I can soooo relate to this article. In my job I see sick and injured patients all day long and the truth is, I have to keep reminding myself to give them the same quality of care even when they are annoying and I don't "like" them. It's not easy especially when they are smelly and unkempt. The moral of the story is to be a "likeable" patient and to
take a shower!!!!! before you go to the doctor.
It also helps tremendously if you just stick to the facts and only give information that is relevant.
