What does Progressive pain mean?
What does Progressive pain mean?
Having very sharp pains on the right side of the top of my right leg going ... its sharp knife like. My symptoms have progressed so much over the course of 5 months. Now they seem to progress and worsen every week. This is the first time having sharp pains however. When something neuropothy wise is progressing so quickly, is that a sign that nerves -wherever they may be are being pressed and damaged progressively???
Re: What does Progressive pain mean?
Lindsey, I can't say for sure what's happening to you. I do know that in my case more and more muscles became involved over time and those muscles in spasm irritated nerves in the pelvis, especially the sciatic nerve. After my surgery those muscles and nerves eventually calmed down. Just my own experience. Have you been evaluated by a physical therapist yet?

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.

Yes,Ive only been going to a physio therapist for a month. Is it common for people to progress aggressively with ths or slowly over time?Violet M wrote:Lindsey, I can't say for sure what's happening to you. Because you've been treated by a PT for the past 4 weeks, it's common for the therapist to do an evaluation. What type of feedback have you gotten?
I'm sorry, I don't have an answer for the second part of your question. Everyone is different.
Kind regards,

Re: What does Progressive pain mean?
My hips and a couple other things were out of alignment. With dry needling and some small therapy excercises they are back im alignment. I just had my very first internal evaluation this week. Muscles were somewhat tight. Most things are worse on thr left hand side. She did a trigger point message internally but with this new arousal symptom,it doesnt help that feeling at all. But this symotom had already started before having internal message. Im just concerned because whatever is wrong with me is very progressive and it isnt just happening extremely slowly. I was as far as I knew a healthy young women 5 months ago and now ive snow balled so quickly. I spoke with Rita at the Tarlov Cyst foundatoion and she is gonna send me the info to what type of imaging test i need to be sure and ask for.Karyn wrote:Lindsey,LindseyD wrote:Yes,Ive only been going to a physio therapist for a month. Hi Lindsey,
I'm glad you got the chance to speak with Reta of the TCDF. I hope you enjoyed talking with her as much as I do!
Do you feel you have a good relationship with your physical therapist? Are you able to communicate freely? I guess what I'm asking, is ...
What are her/his comments about your concerning, progressive neuropathic condition?

Re: What does Progressive pain mean?
Well, I cant remember the fancy terms she uses for my muscles and such... but some of my symptoms make sense to her with how my muscles ... not neccesarily the pgad symptom though. From her stand point, the way my body was aligned and the way it is now,I have so far made good improvemet. She said pain is the last thing that will get better. I have a very good relationshio with her. I keep her posted via email when I am not seeing her. She wants every detail of my symptoms and to know what my other doctors have said, like my obgyn and neurologist. She is a dr. of Physio Therapy. I like her a lot. Its just at this point I havent had much faith in any dr. even if I like them. I believe she is a great dr. and very compassionate and professional. Rather or not she can help me is still to be determined.Karyn wrote:Hi Lindsey,

OK. Do you agree with her?LindseyD wrote:From her stand point, the way my body was aligned and the way it is now,I have so far made good improvemet. She said pain is the last thing that will get better.
It may be helpful to get a copy of your 4 week evaluation. I'm still very unclear about what particular dysfunction she's identified in relationship to your neuropathic symptoms.

Re: What does Progressive pain mean?
I do not know well enough about this to know if pain is the first or last thing to go with therapy,if therapy is indeed what my body needs. I know my hips are back in alignment. My movement is a little better as far as my the way my body moves. Im just not good at explaining dr.talk or the words for certain muscles. I had more hope of getting better eventually, with whatever treatment, until this pgad came about. Now I feel that is the one hardest treat.... my fear....
Re: What does Progressive pain mean?
Lindsey, I was out of alignment too and had worse symptoms on one side. I don't know what kind of exercises the PT is having you do. What happened to me was that originally I just had minor pain without PGAD. My PT had me do stretching exercises and since the nerve was impinged on by ligaments, the stretching exercises irritated the nerve and I developed PGAD and eventually severe pain. If your PT is having you do exercises I wonder if that could be causing nerve irritation. Definitely something to ask your PT.
