EXERCISE-what can you do/not do?

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to ask the question about exercise, last year when I had PN aswell I did yoga once a week and did the occasional jogging and never had an increase in pain. Back then and still now I had serious problems with anxiety and it was the only thing that helped me release some of that adrenaline.

On Monday I did 10 mins of walking/light jog on the treadmill and 20 mins of the cross trainer, and later on I had a big pain flare. Ive no idea if it was due to the exercise or it was due to sitting for 3 hours on my togu cushion at uni. Im still having pain sitting on the cushion so I dont think its the cushion for me. I ordered the low profile twin cheeks cushion so that should be coming soon.

Its just the frustration of being young and already having this for 2 years that I cant seem to do anything normal. I wouldnt go mad at the exercise anyways and wouldnt be silly enough to do weights but is the cross trainer really so bad??

Sorry for having a rant but noone else im friends with understands this

Thanks

Chlo

I think the exercise question is very individual dependent. It is trial and error finding the balance between what flares you and what doesn't. Even for me I exercise every day but some days it is only 10 minutes and other days it can be 30 minutes. My exercises are nothing to right home about and are one's PT has given me plus I do some very easy yoga moves. I also swim laps twice a week but even after 7 years of swimming laps what I can swim one week I may not be able to swim the next week. I just listen to what my bodies tells me and I always stop as soon as I start to get an increase in my baseline of pain because if I don't I know I will pay the price for a couple of days.

You might find doing a little bit everyday better than a big burst 1-2/week. Maybe doing a little bit of yoga everyday. There are lots of videos. I usually get them from the library so I don't get bored doing the same ones and do the moves and can and watch when I can't. I find that works better for me.

As you said you also sat for 3 hours. Maybe it was the combination of the two.

Hoping your flare settles down soon.

Hi,

I think you're right about exercise being individual, I just hate the fact that we cant do something due to the fact it could make the pain worse. I hate living in fear, but yes like you I wouldnt be going mad at the gym or using the exercise bike or doing any weights.

I actually didnt have any pain when i was exercising it was just about 8 hours later it was soo intense, nerve pain is so sneaky cause you can never tell what the inital problem was its like a guessing game.

Thanks though I might try and go again this week but something short and not too strenuous either and say a little prayer that im not in agony later :)

Thanks Chloe. xxx
