For ten months following bladder surgery, I've had a burning/stinging sensation in my right "butt cheek" whenever I sit. Can this be PN or PNE? Some of what I read on this forum makes it sound as if PN or PNE pain is usually directly in the vulva area, which mine is not.

Is it near the sit bone? My sitting pain was just inside the sit - bone, not in the vulvar area. You might benefit from an evaluation by a PT who knows about PN because they can sometimes help you isolate where the pain is coming from.

Yes! It is between the sit bone and the vulvar area...within a couple of inches of the vulvar area. I saw a pelvic floor PT who did myofascial release. She was able to get my pelvic floor completely released but the pain continues. My gyn. suspects PNE. I had a pelvic MRI that showed nothing. I will be seeing a pain specialist in April at the University of Washington. I am wondering if an MRN should be my next step...

Bishop, you might want to read the threads on the 3T MRI by Dr. Potter in NYC and the discussion on MRN versus MRI's. Not all MRI's are created equal. Dr. Potter usually does not read other facilities MRI's but we just had a recent post where she worked with another facility to get the correct area of images and then she read the MRI. Maybe Dr. Potter would be willing to reread your MRI or give advice if they obtained the areas to look for entrapment that need to be evaluated.

Thank you, Violet - I've looked at some threads and find the info about 3-T MRIs very interesting...I didn't know there was such a test. I see there is also a dr. in Arizona (Dr. Kalinkin who works with Dr. Hibner) who does 3-T MRIs. Arizona is a lot closer to me than NY so I might investigate that. I really appreciate your input!
