Nerve damage on one side, pain on the other

How do you know for sure that your nerve damage is on your left side? Did you have some sort of test such as the PNMLT that showed that?
My PNMLT showed that the left side was more damaged than the right but most of my pain was on the right. The PNMLT measures the motor function of the nerve, not the damage to the sensory fibers. PNMLT stands for pudendal nerve motor latency test and it measures how fast the nerve conducts a motor signal from point A to point B. It is not an accurate indication of how much pain you are in.

Wishing you the very best with Dr. A. Interesting - my diahrea symptoms started with the PN, too. If not diahrea, my stools are very soft, short and flat. Do you have motility issues, too? Never had bowel problems in my life ...

Yes , Dr. Antalok did the PNMLT and that showed the left nerves were damaged... Thank you for your response.. I never did have problems with diahrea before either...I will keep you updated , will get my first nerve block next week... KMT, if you are reading this, I was not able to receive your response due to the changes. River133

River, I had my PNMLT and nerve blocks from Dr. A also. Good luck next week.

Are there any surgeons who would consider doing the PNE surgery without the nerve blocks? I have an extremely sensitive nervous system, even physical therapy gives me a flare. Injections in my SI joint caused irreversible inflammation. If i begged hard enough, would anyone consider doing the surgery based on the symptoms alone? Thanks for any opinions. Paulette

Hi Paulette,
I haven't heard of any that will do it without the blocks, but I do feel for you. I've had nerve blocks and an infusion. No flare from the infusion (no pain relief, either) but the flares from the blocks were horrible. Even though it's considered inconclusive, have you considered having the 3TMRI? At least you may have a little ammo with that.

What is 3TMRI, and where is it done? Since the blocks are mainly diagnostic, would a surgeon be willing to order a block with just the marcaine and no steroid? Paulette

I'm so sorry but I don't know about the injection cocktail requirements. Hopefully, someone else on the forum will know. I'm going to leave it to Pelvis Stressly, Ali or Hilary to explain the 3T MRI. You get it at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC and there's contact info under the List of Doctors.

Paulette, Dr. Antolak used to give nerve blocks with marcaine and heparin instead of a steroid. Are you very sensitive to steroids?

I just want to tell you that I will be having surgery by Dr. Antolak on the 5th of Jan.. They had two cancellations.. It isn't going to be soon enough... I am 74 and have never had surgery before...Minor little things, gall bladder , I was home the same day... I am trying to remember to take a day at a time here,, I switched to morphine and it is making me sick to my stomach, so I am going back to the fetnyal.... hopefully tomorrow.when my Dr. gets in. I can not seem to find where I have written before... I am not much with it these days....Have a wonderful Xmas , I will be thinking of all pne people out there...cured and not cured, if there is such a thing as cured... Ellie
