My mum had her first pudendal nerve block in london on 16 September, at first she was really numb, 3 weeks on she is in so much more pain and her legs are now very weak and keep going numb, is this normal, she is due for her 2nd one on Nov 4th i am assuming that they will try in a different place this time, i dont think the pain could possibly get any worse, all she does is cry, she cant sit at all now and she is 71 and gets really tired standing this is destroying her i cant believe they cant make her pain bearable, has anyone got any positive advice or any ideas at all. I am desperate for her.

Was this a guided nerve block your Mum had? do you know where it was targeted and who the Dr. was?
I have heard accounts of flares from nerve blocks, they do tend to settle after a while, I hope this is sooner rather than later for her.
Do you know what kind of medication your Mum is taking as there may be something that can help alleviate the pain she is experiencing. I take additional tramadol on top of pregabalin and cymbalta when I am having a particularly bad episode but there are other prescriptions that can help beside this one.
I do hope that you find some positive help for her soon. Please keep us informed how she is.

Fall 2008. Misdiagnosed with lumber spine problem. MRN June 2010 indicated pudendal entrapment at Alcocks canal. Diagnosed with complex variant piriformis syndrome with sciatic, pudendal and gluteal entrapment's by Dr Filler 2010.Guided piriformis botox injection 2011 Bristol. 2013, Nerve conduction test positive; new spinal MRI scan negative, so diagnosed for the 4th time with pelvic nerve entrapment, now recognised as Sciatic, pudendal, PFCN and cluneal nerves at piriformis level.
My mum is on Gabapentin, pregabalin, amitriptyline, and co-codamol .. Her Dr is Dr Baranowski in London, finally have spoken to his clinical pain sec who has spoken to Dr Baranowski himself and he has now said he does not want to do the second injection untill he sees her so now off to London again for another consultation, He really cant leave her like this, I feel so sorry for all the people who suffer with this horrendous debalitating pain, cant believe they can not treat this, will keep you posted!!
I'm so sorry for your mum and for you Paula. It's normal to be numb immediately after the nerve block but a few do experience a flare in pain for some time afterwards. I didn't experience that after my blocks with Dr. B so I was one of the lucky ones. I'm glad Dr. B is going to fit her in before the 4th Nov as you couldn't leave her for weeks in this condition. He likely will increase the dosage of one of her meds to get her over this difficult time, probably the pregabalin (Lyrica). The co-codamols are known to cause constipation, in high dosage anyway (I was a victim of a brief high dosage), and she wouldn't want that on top of her current flare, but if she's doing okay on those then don't worry on that score. 06/2/13 - Sit pain gradually returned, L3. Offered further CT-guided block, or an op. Had to decline at time.
