I've had what I imagine is PN for 14 years but a few weeks ago I began to have pain in my buttocks when sitting. Not suprisingly this came upon after days and days of prolonged sitting at one of my jobs. This particular job was as a driver. Anyway, I know sitting pain is a halmark of PN but is it usually in the gluteal region? Not to mention the pain seems to be further out and closer to where the leg meets the buttocks. Its about 3 or 4 inches from the crack (sorry I don't know the technical term) and 3 inches from the anus. I was under the impression that most sitting pain was in the perineum, anus and genitals. Curious if mine is more related to Piriformis etc.
Thanks to any and all who reply
Pain in buttocks?
Pain in buttocks?
Scrotal pain and tingling started in 1999. Soreness after ejaculation. Occasional numbness in Scrotum. Some urinary frequency. Symptoms disappeared for 3 years in 07 and came back in 2010. Tingling and tickling in penis 2011. Pain in buttocks with sitting started in July of 2012. Not much success with PT. Tried the usual meds with some success, but didn't like the side effects. Dr. Potter MRI revealed pelvic floor varices. Both hips opperated on in 2013 for FAI. Some help with supplements.

If you take a look at page 77 http://www.nashvillesportsmedicine.com/ ... formis.pdf you will get a good idea where the p muscle is although the blue line should be longer in both directions to trace the actual whole muscle.

Thanks Helen.
As usual those papers confuse me but i'll keep looking it over. Is it normal for PN patients to have pain in the buttocks when sitting? I've tried a cushion but it actually made it worse and even numbed my buttocks

Elmwood, it's not unusual to have piriformis pain associated with PN. It could mean you have some other musculoskeletal issues going on such as a misalignment, SI joint dysfunction, or strained ligaments. Have you had the opportunity to be evaluated by a good physical therapist yet?
I don't have much PN pain anymore but after foolishly trying to jog and use the treadmill my piriformis started acting up again so I just had some prolotherapy and PT and it's improving.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
Re: Pain in buttocks?
I was never able to find much relief with PT's for my original symptoms but I may go back to see if they can help with this new pain. The pain in the buttocks has subsided these past few days. I had a nerve block 9 days ago so I don't know if thats whats helping. I was hoping the block would alleviate the tingling but so such luck so far.
