Lowback/pelvic/sciatica possible PN?

Post by Gavski »

I am trying to eliminate PNE as a cause of my ongoing back/pelvic symptoms.

Hi all, I'm new to the board and here's my story so far -
Male 53 uk

My history -
I was diagnosed with mechanical back pain 20 year ago. Symptoms included - mostly RH low back pain/buttock pain, RH groin pain, but also tingling/sensitivity and pain in the lower abdomen/anal and testes, I also get feet sensitivity sometimes. My standing, sitting, walking is severely restricted. very limited forward flexion.
An MRI found a small L5/S1 disc tear and this became the focus of my treatment.
I have since had L5/S1 micro discectomy, and then full anterior discectomy and fusion.
Neither of these surgeries had any effect on my symptoms.
I have no SI joint pain and I am looking at other peripheral areas that could be the source of the pain. In particular, the pudendal and piriformis.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has similar symptoms or can give nay advice,

thanks

Welcome Gavski,
So sorry you did not have better luck with your intial treatments. Our usual suggestion is to start with a PN aware physiotherapist as they might be able to determine which nerve and/ or help treat it. One of our more knowledgeable people on piriformis is Helenlegs from the UK and will probably give you some advice of what to do or who to see there. There is a UK section with info on resources and the faqs on the home page has info and also pn aware physios ahould be listed off the home page. Good luck.

2007-08 pelvic muscles spasms treated by EGS. 6/27/10 sat too long on hard chair- spasms, EGS not work Botox help, cortisone shots in coccyx help, still pain, PT found PNE & sent me to Dr Marvel nerve blocks & MRN, TG left surgery 5/9/11. I have chronic bunion pain surgery at age 21. TG gave me back enough sitting to keep my job & join in some social activities. I wish the best to everyone! 2019 luck with orthotics from pedorthist & great PT allowing me to get off oxycodone.
