new here. hyster on 8/22 hurt me. L3&4 spine injection

Post by heatherhashope »

Hi, I'M Heather and new here.

I found a link to this site from the hystersister web site. My hyster has left me with definite prudendal pain. I'm in Nebraska. I'm seeing a euro gyn/ a pelvic floor pt/ and a spine surgeon. I'm hoping for relief from spine injection. I have an L3&L4 slip disk and doc says its questionable if that is causing my pain.

I read on one post that if the spine shot is not successful than its defiantly not sciatica and would be more PNE. I will not stop on my pursuit of pain relief until I am pain free. My life has been stolen from me and I'm going to steal it back!

I read in one post that there is a Dr. In houston That will cut through your butt muscle in search of entrapment and cut ligaments. Ya who. Sign me up!
I also read that your colon can and will Herniated through your rectal muscles. Well my reconcile failed and I hear that colon can cause pinching. This was not from a doc. All this info is from hyster sister site. I am now a HOPE SISTER! :) thank you for reading. Please reply and say hi cause the mental alone-ness and fear may kill me. Thanks again!

WelcomeHeather - you are not alone here! Plenty of HOPE Sisters and brothers. We each help each other as best we can. Although it may seem great to hear about surgery thinking it would solve the problem like other surgeries but we do advise her to check out the other stuff first. I was told "success" for PNE surgery is defined as any even very minor improvement not like an actual decent %. Also although I got a pretty good diagnosis of PNE that is not definite until the do the surgery. Currently in a flare 2.5 years post op and there are still limitations in my life. I am very glad I avoided 24/7 pain level 10 but there are many variants of symptoms and a few other problems causing the same symptoms as PNE we try to rule out MS, hernias, tarvlov cysts and labral hip tears. Good luck and keep that driving force to figure this out!

2007-08 pelvic muscles spasms treated by EGS. 6/27/10 sat too long on hard chair- spasms, EGS not work Botox help, cortisone shots in coccyx help, still pain, PT found PNE & sent me to Dr Marvel nerve blocks & MRN, TG left surgery 5/9/11. I have chronic bunion pain surgery at age 21. TG gave me back enough sitting to keep my job & join in some social activities. I wish the best to everyone! 2019 luck with orthotics from pedorthist & great PT allowing me to get off oxycodone.

Hi Heather,

I'm in the UK so things are a little different lol. I'm also very new to this site and the vast support it offers.

I have a little knowledge of anatomy & physiology (perhaps more than I care to admit to) left over from my combat medic days. As a result if you are getting pain in your pelvic region I very much doubt it is being referred from L3/L4.

I have a torn disc protruding towards the cord at L5/S1 and even that is too high for my current pelvic pain! The pelvic region is fed by nerves from the sacrum where there are no discs. So your consultant is right to be sceptical if your pain is in your pelvic region.

I wish you luck with your proposed treatment!

But at the moment unless someone proves me wrong I'm not convinced by intrusive surgery. I think that has to be a last resort, depending on the pain scale that one is suffering of course. We're all different and so our pain thresholds differ.

So I'm prepared to try everything else first, and that includes continuing to exercise and living my life to its fullest. A positive mind can achieve more imho.

Hello Heather,

Sorry to hear of your difficulty post hysterectomy. We've had a lot of women post over the years who developed pudendal neuralgia as a result of a hysterectomy.

Looks like you are already trying physical therapy. Hopefully your therapist is trained in treating PN and will be able to help you. Have the treatments been helping at all so far? Your therapist should be able to press along the course of the pudendal nerve to see if that elicits pain. According to the Nantes criteria, that can be diagnostic for pudendal nerve entrapment. http://www.pudendalhope.info/sites/defa ... iteria.pdf

Wishing you all the best in your pursuit of pain relief.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
