Advice on Pain Managment Drs and what to look for??
My family is helping me find a pain management clinic here in Georgia. Does anyone have any advice on what type of things I should ask or look for in a pain management dr.? Is it bad to start seeing one when you dont even have an actual diagnosis of anything yet? Ive tried PT,and easy things like that. To read my story/symptoms its under "a lot in 5 months" post, but Im obviously looking for someone to treat neuropathic pain (as we all are) but at the moment I dont know where my pain is coming from. Somewhere in my body some nerves are going hay wire. It started with the bladder and snow balled. I havent had a crazy fall or car accident to explain any of this. Any how, looking for a doc to treat/help with Interstitial Cystitis,Neuropathic pain from the sacrum down, and some pgad.

Lindsay,
If you have a family doctor or obgyn that you trust, you could ask that doctor for information on pain management doctors or even to call in a referral. Another option is if you live near a large university with a medical center to start the process with their pain management department.

PN started 2004 from fall. Surgery in 2006 and 2007. Pain decreased by 85% in 2009, pain returned worse in 12/13. Pain reduced again in 2023.

Some pain clinics may emphasize injection procedures while others may emphasize pain management with medications. You may want to ask what treatment modalities are used when you are looking for a clinic.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
