Treating my PN in the USA
Treating my PN in the USA
After seven years of struggling, I was recently diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia and I want to treat that condition in the United States, whoever I do not know anything about the U.S. health system. My university, UTEP, offers a health insurance that costs a little bit more than 2 thousand a year. Is there a better option for a person that may only work part time and whose parents live and work in Mexico and will not be able to pay medical expenses? I am an american citizen, I just did not grow up here, I moved when I started college.

Vherre, I don't know anything about the UTEP student insurance program but you can find information here if you haven't already: https://myahpcare.com/wp-content/upload ... -15-16.pdf That is the website for student insurance. If you are employee of UTEP and not a student you will need to check with your benefits department.
You are going to need to do some research and find out what they would cover as far as your treatment and whether they will cover treatment associated with your new diagnosis if you did not already have coverage at the time your were diagnosed. It could be considered a pre-existing condition. There is a phone # at the bottom of the plan that you can call for assistance.
You can also check with https://www.healthcare.gov/get-coverage/ to see what kind of coverage you can get and compare the cost with the UTEP plan but it is going to take some research on your part to find out which plan is better for you. The other thing to keep in mind is that insurance purchased through healthcare.gov could change at any time since the government and US courts are still in the process of working out the details of the government run insurance programs. I don't think the state of Texas has a state health insurance exchange program so you would have to go through the federal plan. If you are low income it could be subsidized low cost insurance but it might be difficult to find physicians and PT's who will accept the insurance. So I would recommend checking with the physicians you want to see to find out what kind of insurance they will accept before making a decision. I understand that it can be difficult to do this research but no one can do it for you because they will typically only talk with the patient due to HIPPA laws.
I'm sorry you are on this difficult journey.
Best Regards,
Violet

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
