Urgency symptoms control?

Post by soldier »

I appear to be luckier than some - based on a fall, I think I suffered some damage to te Pudendal. Not plagued with a lot of pain, but rather insistent urgency problems indicatig needs to urinate or defecate.
These turn out to be fictituous in most cases. I am wondering if any one has learned of a way to differentiate real from false, or learned another way of coping witgh the same. One factor I have noticed is that usually bowel urgency -s acccompanies with fas or flatulence, and voiding the fas does afford some reliev in many instances. Would like comments or wisdom in this regafrd

I haven't had a bowel urgency problem, but when I had urinary urgency I did better when I drank very large amounts of water and tried to hold it until my bladder was truly full. The stretching of the bladder and the sensation of urinating with a full bladder instead of dribbling, cut down on bladder spasms.
This worked great when I had interstitial cystitis alone; but once I got neurogenic bladder from PN it was less useful. The thing that helped my bladder to relax the most at that point, was frequent deep trigger point massage of my belly and inner thighs. Also building up my transvers abdominal muscles in PT, so that when I felt urgency I could tighten them it standing, which helped for some reason.
My urinary issues are resolved now because I had my pelvic joints re-aligned; you might also have a joint dysfunction as an underlying issue since you say this happened after a fall.
pelvic pain started 1985 age 14 interstitial cystitis. Refused medical care from age 17, did GREAT with self care for years.
2004 PN started gradually, disabled by 2009. Underlying cause SIJD & Tarlov cysts
improved with PT & meds: neurontin, valium, nortriptyline, propanolol. (off nortriptyline & propanolol now, yay!)
Tarlov cyst surgery with Dr. Frank Feigenbaum March 20, 2012.
Results have been excellent so far; but I won't know my final functional level for a couple of years.
