Physical therapy at home

Post by MarkGM »

Hi,
I’m new here. My first time posting. I just saw a neurologist last Friday. He says I have PS but I also have symptoms related to PN. In regard to therapy, is it possible to do physical therapy at home? I can’t afford physical therapy at this time. Just trying to find ways to get relief and live a normal life. Thank you.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum. You may be able to do some PT treatments at home but it might be a good idea to at least get an initial evaluation by a qualified PT to see what PT protocol would most likely be helpful for you, and at that evaluation, ask the PT to suggest a protocol that you can do on your own at home. Often PT includes pelvic floor myofascial release which would be a challenge to do on your own, but some people use wands to do it themselves at home. Personally, I would have found a wand to be way too painful, but some people find it helpful. I wasn't able to tolerate myofascial release done at the PT's office either - it caused too much of a pain flare-up and stretches made things worse too, but it turns out I had an entrapment and all the exercises and stuff they gave me just made things worse. So, when it comes to PT, it is reasonable to give it a try but proceed with caution and if it makes you worse, I don't think it makes sense to continue irritating a nerve that's already irritated.

Do you know what triggered PN symptoms for you? The treatments you pursue, might depend to some extent on what triggered it in the first place. For instance, exercise is what triggered it for me, so that's probably why PT wasn't really the answer because it involved more exercise.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
