How Does Medical Billing Affect the Patient Experience?

Post by charliehampton »

I’ve been learning more about how healthcare billing works and I’m curious about how much it can affect the overall patient experience.

From insurance verification and coding to claim submission, denials, and final payments, there seem to be many steps where mistakes or delays can happen.

For those who work in healthcare, what part of the medical billing process do you think causes the most problems for patients? And what could providers or billing teams do to make the process easier and more transparent?

Would be interested to hear your experiences and opinions.

Hi Charlie,

Are you speaking as a patient from personal experience about a problem with billing? It don't have any ideas that come to mind regarding your question but I do know there have been patients in the past who have posted that certain procedures need to be coded a certain way in order for insurance to cover it.

PNE since 2002. Started from weightlifting. PNE surgery from Dr. Bautrant, Oct 2004. Pain now is usually a 0 and I can sit for hours on certain chairs. No longer take medication for PNE. Can work full time and do "The Firm" exercise program. 99% cured from PGAD. PNE surgery was right for me but it might not be for you. Do your research.
