Ketamine Cream

Post by greeneyes »

Hello. I have used this forum for several years but have not posted anything in a long time. I'm wondering if anyone has tried ketamine cream as a treatment for neuropathic pain. I have had PN for 6+ years and low back pain for 17 years. My husband and I recently changed health insurers (out of necessity, not choice), switching from Blue Cross to Kaiser Permanente. I just started Kaiser's chronic pain program and the physician I saw yesterday prescribed ketamine cream for the burning sensation in my low back. I understand this cream can also be used for gynecological purposes. Has anyone tried it and if so, did it help? Thanks.

Hi Greeneyes,
Welcome back! :P
Could you please tell me a bit more about the ketamine cream? Have you had it filled yet? Is this a compounded formula or is ketamine the only ingredient?
It's true that there are (ketamine) creams that can be used in the genital area. However, I strongly suggest checking with your physician before applying it there. I was prescribed a ketamine compound gel for my SIJ, but was expressly told not to put it anywhere near mucous membrane/delicate genital soft tissue areas.
Ultra Sound in 03/08 showed severely retroverted, detaching uterus with mulitple fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Pressure and pain in lower abdomen and groin area was unspeakable and devastating.
Total lap hysterectomy in 06/08, but damage was already done.
EMG testing in NH in 04/10 - bilateral PN and Ilioinguals
3T MRI at HSS, NY in 09/10
Bilateral TG surgery with Dr. Conway on 03/29/11. Bilat ilioinguinal & iliohypogastric neurectomy 03/12. TCD surgery 04/14.
